Initially I came to yoga on one wet and windy afternoon when my school sports teacher decided to bring us into the warm and teach us a little yoga – lucky for me!  That was my first taste of yoga, and the last for a few years, but the positive memories stayed with me.

It wasn’t until I moved up to London and started working in the corporate world that I felt the need to reconnect with the essence of that which I had experienced in my very first class.  It was then that my love of yoga was reignited attending regular classes. Several years later, having started a family, I took a break from my career in Marketing and found myself drawn more to yoga, for it provided an anchor. I soon enrolled on a teaching training course with the British Wheel of Yoga, the main reason being to deepen my understanding.

During my 4 years of study to become a British Wheel of Yoga teacher I hadn’t quite appreciated just how much my choice of earlier studies had influenced me. For it was during my degree in Geography and Environmental Studies that I developed an appreciation of our connection with the natural world, and later, during my Business Masters, I found myself particularly interested in the human quality of empathy, and how this shapes our attitudes and behaviour in the workplace.

It was some years into teaching yoga that I became aware of the practices of mindfulness and how these practices could enhance and broaden my teaching. Again I found myself on another course, this time with Mindfulness UK. I find that the yoga and mindfulness draw well on my earlier knowledge gained, and coupled with both life and work experiences, all have helped to shape the teacher I am today, and continues to.

The beauty of these ancient practices are as relevant today as they were centuries ago, for the very fact that they have the ability to adapt to present times. They have grown with me. Or it may be more correct to say I have grown with them.

We are thrilled to announce that Nicola will be holding  #MindfulMovement Classes from September, to be held at MindfulnessUK Head Office in Cannon Street Taunton.
