What does the Training Involve?

The training takes place online via Zoom over 2 days (3rd & 10th June 2024, 10am-4pm) and is facilitated by Karen Atkinson (CEO of MindfulnessUK).

During the training you will:

  • Explore the MBI:TAC as a Supervisory tool
  • Use the Iceberg Model as a theoretical framework
  • Practise supervision with peers
  • Receive comprehensive notes on becoming a Supervisor, gives an example of a Supervisor’s agreement and additional resources

The course:

  • Fulfils BAMBA’s GPGs for Supervisor training
  • Culminates in the receipt of a Trained Supervisor certificate
  • Is internationally applicable, delivered in English.
Prerequisites

Who is this training for?

  • Is open to any trained and experienced mindfulness and compassion teacher who holds a recognised teacher training certificate such as MBSR/ MBCT/ Integrating Mindfulness and Compassion/ Compassionate Mindful Resilience Trained Teacher etc.
  • Trainees have been teaching mindfulness-based courses for over 3 years or more, a minimum of 9 courses.
  • The trainee is required to have read “Compassionate Mindful Inquiry in Therapeutic Practice” (2020) Atkinson, K, Singing Dragon, and attended (or booked) the Process of Inquiry Masterclass.
  • Necessitates the trainee to be having regular supervision themselves.

 

Prerequisites to Becoming a Supervisor

Supervisors need to:

  1. Have completed mindfulness-specific supervision training (minimum of 2 days) or have demonstrable equivalent experience.
  2. Work within an inquiry-led model of mindfulness-based supervision as well as have some familiarity with other models of supervision.
  3. Be familiar with the use of the Mindfulness-Based Interventions: Teaching Assessment Criteria (MBI-TAC) as an aid to supervision.
  4. Be familiar with the principles that influence learning and development of individuals and groups.
  5. Have on-going study and guidance to support a deepening of the supervisor’s own personal mindfulness practice. This might include interviews or meetings with a teacher on teacher-led retreats; on-going dialogue with a teacher experienced in meditation; and/or guidance and study with an experienced mindfulness supervisor who has these skills and experience.
  6. Have a deep familiarity with the theoretical underpinnings of the mindfulness approach being taught and its aims and intentions e.g. MBSR/MBCT/ Compassion and engage in regular updates e.g. through reading, workshops etc.
